Amadeo Bonaiuto
Bridging Cultures Through the Trumpet
Amadeo Bonaiuto is an Argentine trumpet player, currently based in Berlin. He began his musical education at the “Escuela Superior de Música de Neuquén,” where he studied trumpet and later dedicated over ten years to teaching lessons and masterclasses. During his time at the institution, he also served as an adjunct trumpet teacher for the symphonic ensemble led by Maestro Andrés Tolcachir and for the Big Band conducted by Maestro Osvaldo Lichtenzveig.
Amadeo continued his training with some of Argentina’s most notable trumpet teachers, including Juan Cruz de Urquiza, Sergio Wagner, Richard Nant, Gustavo Bergalli, and Valentín Garvie. He also had the privilege of studying with international masters like Adam Rapa and Ronald Romm at the International Festival “Isla Verde Bronces,” where he participated both as a student and speaker. Throughout his career, he has been deeply involved in social education programs such as “Suena Música,” where he not only taught various instruments but also conducted ensembles in schools equipped with musical instruments. Additionally, he contributed to the Confluencia School Orchestras, providing trumpet lessons to children from underprivileged neighborhoods. Many of his students from these programs are now pursuing careers as trumpet teachers or freelance musicians.
Blending Jazz and Folklore: The Amadeo Bonaiuto Quartet
Amadeo’s classical credentials are equally impressive. He played as the first trumpet for the Río Negro Philharmonic Orchestra and as a guest artist with the Neuquén Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, he performed with several brass ensembles, including the Patagonia Quartet Trumpet.
Alongside his performance career, Amadeo has a strong academic focus, having written and edited two books: “El pensamiento armónico en la trompeta” (Editorial Melos, 2016) and “A Brass Tree”, an independently published work. He has traveled throughout Latin America, presenting his original music and offering trumpet and improvisation masterclasses at esteemed institutions like the National Conservatory of Lima (Peru).
In Berlin, Amadeo currently performs with the Composer Orchestra Berlin, an ensemble where all participants are composers. He also freelances with various groups. At the same time, he leads his own project, the Amadeo Bonaiuto Quartet, which explores the fusion of jazz and Argentine and South American folkloric rhythms, such as chacarera and zamba, creating a unique musical blend that reflects his diverse influences.
